Book Recommendations for Self-Care
As may know, my goal is to help you find true health and balance, with you at the center of it all.
I’ve been reading up a storm lately, and just finished two new books that will change your life (and one that’s been around a little longer but is a must-read–I’ve read it numerous times.)
All 3 are top picks in terms of finding true health, helping you discover ways to make changes and achieve balance that is inspired from within.
They each offer concrete ways to make positive, simple changes in your life.
The photo above shows my Mom and Dad on a recent visit: not only is my Mom reading one of my recommendations, but my Dad is giving my Mom reflexology. It doesn’t get better than that!
1. Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself
In this book, Dr. Lissa Rankin creates a radical new wellness model to help you discover what may be out of whack in your life–whether you have a chronic or acute illness or are just generally feeling out of balance. Her research and own health issues led her to discover that our bodies have natural self-repair mechanisms that can be activated or disabled based on our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. One plus of my job is that I get to see this in action on a regular basis. Dr. Rankin helps you create your own customized treatment plan to find true health (and you know I’m a fan of this!)
2. The Tapping Solution: A Revolutionary System for Stress-Free Living
I’ve talked about tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), in previous posts (and here’s part deux) and I probably showed it to you if you’ve come to me for hypnosis sessions (it’s one of my favorite go-to techniques). This book provides a great foundation about how EFT works, as well as chapters that cover how to use it to alleviate pain/illness, lose weight, create healthy relationships, make money, and eliminate phobias.
Some clients have found it useful to read on their own, while others have come for sessions after reading the book to get additional guidance. It can be helpful to have support for more challenging issues. Either way is best!
3. The Japanese Art of Reiki: A Practical Guide to Self-Healing
This is hands down (yes, pun intended!) the best book I’ve read about Reiki. I continue to study with author Frans Stiene (known to many as the Reiki Teacher’s Teacher) and I can’t say enough good things about him. This book provides in-depth information on the history of Reiki, as well as grounding techniques and meditations to deepen your practice. A must-read for any Reiki student or practitioner!
And if you’re new to Reiki, and are considering taking a class and learning Reiki you can read more about that here.
