How To Find The Best Reiki Practitioner For You
It can be hard to know what to look for when searching for a Reiki practitioner. I had a client ask me about this yesterday–she was looking for a recommendation for her uncle who lives in Texas.
Read on to find out the top questions to ask to find a qualified Reiki practitioner. I’ll give you the evaluation criteria to look for to make an informed decision.
1. How long was the practitioner’s training?
Reiki trainings range anywhere from 1-2 days to a year or more. When training takes place over a longer period of time, there’s more of an opportunity to integrate what is taught, ask questions, and practice.
2. How long has the practitioner been practicing professionally?
The length of time the practitioner has been seeing clients professionally can be an indication of a breadth of experience, and hopefully a level of comfort dealing with a range of client situations and issues.
3. Does the practitioner specialize in working with certain kinds of clients or issues?
This can be helpful if the practitioner offers a specialty (for example, working with certain health conditions, or with a particular career focus e.g. artists, or around a certain challenge e.g. relationship issues) that corresponds with what you need as the client.
4. Do you feel comfortable?
This is more a question to ask yourself. You want to feel comfortable and at ease when you speak or email with the practitioner when you schedule your appointment, and during the session itself. You might be dealing with a sensitive issue, and you want to feel supported. Trust and a sense of rapport during any kind of bodywork is vital.
5. What is the practitioner’s personal practice? Do they practice daily Reiki self care and meditate?
Practicing daily Reiki self care and meditation lies at the center of the system of Reiki. The more a practitioner works on her or his own healing, the more s/he will have to offer you as the client. This also ensures that their own issues don’t get in the way of helping and supporting you.
6. Does the practitioner get Reiki or other kinds of bodywork sessions regularly?
This can be a sign that the practitioner invests in taking care of him or herself on a regular basis, and can be a way to work through their own issues and challenges and avoid burnout. Receiving sessions can also inform the way the practitioner gives sessions, helping her or him remember what it feels like to be the client.
You’ll be able to find the answers to some of these questions on the practitioner’s website; other questions you might want to ask on the phone, in an email, or in person. I hope you find a wonderful Reiki practitioner so you can best enjoy the benefits of Reiki.
